my back pages bob dylan

BOB DYLAN /songs/my-back-pages

Crimson flames tied through my ears
Rollin’ high and mighty traps
Pounced with fire on flaming roads
Using ideas as my maps
“We’ll meet on edges, soon,” said I
Proud ’neath heated brow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

Half-wracked prejudice leaped forth
“Rip down all hate,” I screamed
Lies that life is black and white
Spoke from my skull. I dreamed
Romantic facts of musketeers
Foundationed deep, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

Girls’ faces formed the forward path
From phony jealousy
To memorizing politics
Of ancient history
Flung down by corpse evangelists
Unthought of, though, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

A self-ordained professor’s tongue
Too serious to fool
Spouted out that liberty
Is just equality in school
“Equality,” I spoke the word
As if a wedding vow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

In a soldier’s stance, I aimed my hand
At the mongrel dogs who teach
Fearing not that I’d become my enemy
In the instant that I preach
My pathway led by confusion boats
Mutiny from stern to bow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

Yes, my guard stood hard when abstract threats
Too noble to neglect
Deceived me into thinking
I had something to protect
Good and bad, I define these terms
Quite clear, no doubt, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then
I’m younger than that now

prayer and asking

i've been having wonderful conversations with a couple of young missionaries this week.... they don't have all the answers and neither do i ... and THAT is the way it should be.

the last meeting, i was asked to lead a prayer... told 'em... my prayers aren't long... and they're not what others view as a prayer... he said, "that's okay, just speak from your heart."

this is my 'prayer':

i thank You for this day.

amen.

the pain of joy? or the joy of pain?

saw this article in my facebook feed::

the pain of joy on social websites
Diane Colling, an occupational therapist and fertility patient, was scrolling through her Facebook page last week when, once again, she was bombarded by a friend's exuberant broadcast about her pregnancy. "Your daughter will hold your hand for a little while, but will hold your heart for a lifetime," her brother's pregnant girlfriend posted.

"I know it's not meant to hurt, but you feel like you're getting kicked every time you see these," said Colling, 28, who lives in Baltimore County and has been trying to get pregnant since 2006. "I have to unfriend people for a while. If I was smart, I wouldn't go on Facebook anymore, but I'd completely lose connections with family and friends."

while the plight of the subject is sad... the mind set of the subject is heartbreaking.

she saw her misery in the joy of other people.... believe me, you will always fall short with that attitude and magnify your pain to levels that kill the soul.

"keeping up with the jones" --  most people don't see the implications of trying.  you will only see the exterior, not the struggles, not the sacrifices.  you will only see the accomplishments and never know the haunted soul.

what i'm trying to say... when your mind is set on comparing your pain to the joy of another... your pain will block out any possible chance of sharing their joy... you are on a path that will kill your soul.

nor is it wise to compare your joy of the past with your joy of today... let each moment be it's own pleasure... it's own measurement of life and living.

even with your most painful moments... this too shall pass.

had a friend suggestion on facebook

had a friend suggestion... considered it, i'm all for expanding the variety in my 'feed'... looked at the wall postings... they were single minded... but that's okay, some people are wired that way .... then i looked at the info page. wow... in the bio was the following blurb concerning PRIVACY NOTICE:

Any person, and/or institution, and/or agent, and/or agency, of any governmental structure, including, but not limited to, the United States Federal Government, also using or monitoring this website, Facebook, or any of its associated websites, you do NOT have my permission to utilize any of my profile information, nor any of the content contained herein, including, any and all comments made on postings by myself and/or others, along with my photos + videos, and/or the comments made about my photos, or any other "picture" art posted on my profile. The contents of this profile are private, legally privileged, and confidential information, and the violation of my personal privacy is punishable by law. Thank you for your cooperation.

again.... wow!

got paranoia?

wonder if that blurb includes copying and pasting that blurb?

this person will probably get pissed (and file a lawsuit) that i c/p'ed it... oh well,

if ya don't want it shared... do not post it on the innerwebs.

it's only "private" if you keep it to yourself... once released.. it's out there... just like this person.

huge following on the page... but i've learned that US people adore the absurd.... just look at the followers of palin and glenn beck....

bless'er heart

what can your Representative do for you?

most of you know that i am "mobility impaired" which means i fall, a lot. Ranger is my service animal and goes everywhere with me... i mean everywhere. the only time he's not with me is when he goes to the vet for his weekly bath, or when he goes to relieve himself.

august of 2009 i took my youngest grandson for his 2 month checkup and shots. 15 minutes in the waiting room and a woman walked out of the office and told me i had to get my dog out of the room.  without going into details about the whole incident... i explained Ranger's job and advised her to go to the ADA website and see the guidelines concerning Service Animals. she returned, told me i had to leave or she would call the police and have me arrested... i told her to put it in writing.

i filed a complaint with the DoJ in september 2009. website said it would be reviewed in 3 to 6 months. i called in january 2010, "no, it hasn't been reviewed yet"... i called in february, still  "no"... i kept calling the DoJ, kept getting "not yet, but soon"

i called in may 2009.... same answer. i called the office of the 2nd District of Mississippi Representative Bennie Thompson on a monday... that wednesday i got a call from the DoJ telling me that since it was dealing with a health clinic that received federal funding my case would be handed over the the DHHS.

and i waited... and waited for DHHS to get in touch with me... for 5 months ... i called about every 2 weeks, but could never get anything other than a recording. i left messages, i wrote... no response from the DHHS atlanta office.

then i called my Representative again.. on a tuesday... 2 days later i received a call telling me that i would receive a registered letter and i should have everything returned 20 days from the day the letter was typed.

i did.. hoping that things will move swiftly... but, if they don't... i know who to call to make things happen.

yes, i will be voting for Bennie Thompson every time he runs for re-election.

with Liberty and Justice for All.

"one nation under god" is where most citizens get hung up... so desperate to keep that added phrase in the Pledge they forget the words that follow::

"Indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for ALL"

the most important words in the Pledge, yet the most neglected in the argument on health care, education, and taxes

is it just that those with the ability and intelligence must resort to student loans to better self in the land of the free? tax money that is given to the banks by the federal government to lend to tax payers, and guaranteed by the taxpayers if the student defaults. that has been remedied. it (hopefully) won't have the middleman making money off students.

is it just that those with ability, but unable to get a loan, must wait till the age of twenty-seven? (unless you're a single parent) doesn't that seem like the system is designed to keep people in "their place"?

is it just that when ~46% of an educational districts budget is based upon the local tax base that some affluent districts will spend more per student than those with a less than adequate budget? really? how is that just? it's more a matter of 'luck' as to who your parents are and the position they've attained in this life.

is it just that some are lucky enough to have adequate health care? yeah, i said LUCKY --- right place, right time, right connections, right qualifications to get a job that has health benefits.

we have all benefited from those with 'less' fighting those with 'more'  -- your 40 hour workweek with overtime was earned by laborers banding together to fight for the rights you take for granted... yeah, even that health care, and the right for children to attend school and not be forced to work in factories and fields. someone... somewhere... at some point in our history believed in "Liberty and Justice for All"

i will tell you the most arrogant, ignorant, close-minded statement i've ever heard "i made it on my own with NO help from anybody"

when someone says that i always reply, "bullshit"

if you are reading this, someone helped you... probably using tax dollars from US taxpayers. now that i think about it.... can you name one person you've met (in person or in the virtual world) that hasn't benefited in some way on the backs of the US taxpayer?

just came across this quote [20011.30.01]

‎"Labor is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if labor had not first existed. Labor is the superior of capital, and deserves much the higher consideration." ~Abe Lincoln 1861

the definition of fucktard

she WORKED for a financial company, yet had to watch foxnews to form an opinion. 2010 will go down in history as the year of the idiot.

"I was unaware of what was going on around me until I retired," says Shelby Burnett, who formerly worked at a financial company. "And we started watching Fox News, and getting more informed on what was going on in our nation."

The paradox of our time

i've been told that bitterness and anger show in my postings... i feel it's more a cynical nature knowing people will fuck up, just a matter of when and to what degree... most humans are never happy, never satisfied... never willing to help their fellow creatures "just because" --- it seems everyone wants something... even those professing love and charity fail to really think about 'what would Jesus do?'  i don't know for sure, but i can hazard a guess that He wouldn't be fighting an increase to "render unto caesar" for infrastructure and betterment of society in general... and i would hazard another guess that He would expect us to help those less fortunate than self... and i'm pretty sure He wouldn't be traveling in a personal jet owned by his ministry to visit the missions in other countries, i view him more as a traveling coach instead of business.... but, that's just my view of "wwJd?"

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints.
We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We added years to life not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space.
We've done larger things, but not better things.
We cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
We conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.
We learned to rush, but not to wait.
We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships.
These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom.

life

i've reached the point in life where i spend most of my time asking others "just what the fuck were you thinking?"

i've yet to get a satisfactory reply... well, at least not one that can be heard..usually some mumbling.. followed by the sound of footsteps leaving my area.
