the failure of the greatest generation.. or, was popeye a prophetic depiction?

had a dream last night... about popeye the sailor man.. toot, toot.

this morning it occurred to me... WHOA! talk about life imitating cartoons....

*disclaimer- each generation has some of each--i'm seeing the generations as a whole--if you are offended --fuck yaself and that horse you rode in here on*

i, as most of my boomer generation, grew up watching popeye on the tube... he saw a problem, ate his spinach (however horrible or unpalatable the solution happened to be) and completed the job... in record time.

THAT, dear friends, defined "The Greatest Generation" .... too bad "t-g-g" raised a group of wimpy's ... boomers who would rather "gladly pay you tomorrow, for a hamburger today"... t-g-g gave us doctors that would see you regardless of your ability to pay... they gave us a country that could compete with anyone in the world ... a better life than t-g-g could have dreamed possible ... and the boomer generation squandered all that and MUCH more.

and, what did we raise? what did boomers give the world?

for the most part? brutus and olive oyl... either bully you and take what another earned, or cry "help" and wait to be rescued...

hence, the bail out, the surge of re-habs, invading the clusterfuckistans, even the bp oil spill and southern governors declaring a "day of prayer"

T-G-G gave us our highways and interstate system that no other could rival, public libraries, public utilities, sooooo much... my generation should be ashamed of debating a 4% tax hike while the more wealthy of T-G-G paid up to 90% tax on yearly income... we deserve the shambles we've created.,.. but my grandchildren do NOT.

soooooo, what will the 'sweet pea' generation give us? is there hope for my grandchildren?

day'umn, i hope so... our nation's future depends on them stepping up and becoming the next Greatest Generation.

a miracle? really?

sooooooooo... some of the governors of the southern gulf states are declaring a day of prayer on sunday 27 june 2010... seems the one declared by another governor on 17 may 2010 didn't get the job done...

"Thus far the efforts made by mortals to try to solve the crisis have been to no avail, " Republican Sen. Robert Adley said in a statement. "It is clearly time for a miracle for us."

you are reading this so i'm going to tell you what would be a miracle... that the federal and state government actually DO THEIR JOB... instead they make more feel-good-hope-i-get-reelected laws (arizona comes to mind) and let large companies make their own rules (bp and their island off the alaskan coast to by-pass the deepwater drilling moratorium --- yeah, it's now an onshore rig, not offshore) instead of enforcing the laws already on the books.

disgust does not begin to describe my feelings at the moment.

where's the day'umn duct tape?

and it happened again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again

not sure if it's firefox or blogspot... but this message appears when ff crashes after my attempts to use the advanced feature on design layout

healing means acknowledging the pain... and as my g-ma put it "keep using the same pattern and you'll keep making the same dress" recognize the patterns that lead to the same pain... and CHANGE yourself.

Peter Frampton Performs "Show Me the Way"

the concert on 10 june 2010 in biloxi, ms... was great! well, the opening act (frampton) was great... the headliner just wasn't the same ... i'll say no more just to be polite.

my 2010 concert plan... in progress

soooo, went to see willie nelson at the house of blues, NOLA, in january... father-in-law died and then our home burnt to the ground shortly after... great concert... nasty memories associated with it. so i decided to set upon a concert 'redeaux' to replace my fave concert t-shirts lost in the fire... it's my 'in your face' to the devastation that has come with this year... asked for a mulligan... haven't received it yet... so i'm going to have a good time till the reset button is hit.

tom and i saw jimmy buffett at the woodlands in may... great concert and no nasty memories... now Ranger and i are leaving on a trip to biloxi to see frampton .... the thought of the beach and the oil spill .... i just hope there is a way and (the gov't uses it) to minimize the damage...

the photos and vid that i have seen are heart-wrenching... on the plus side, a friend that moved to the area a while back got in touch with me and we are having dinner on friday... i have missed heather, it will be so good to hug her once again.
[if any of you are in the area, ping me on facebook, i'll buy ya a coffee.]

anyway, have jackson browne scheduled in august along with crosby, stills, and nash... after that? who knows.
